Renewables on the Rise 2018

Minneapolis -- Today, only a week after St. Paul’s announcement that the city has set a goal of making all buildings carbon neutral by 2050, Environment Minnesota Research and Policy Center (RPC) released a new report showing why a 100% renewable future is well within reach. Since 2008, Minnesota has seen a 550-fold increase in the amount of electricity it gets from the sun --and more than doubled wind power production. The evidence is clear: a cleaner, healthier economy powered by renewable energy is within our reach.

Environment Minnesota Statement on 2018 MN Legislative Session

This session, Environment Minnesota worked with our allies in the environmental community to preserve the huge gains we’ve made in Minnesota. Shortsighted proposals at the Capitol would have gutted the state’s Community Solar Gardens program, given a green light to a dirty tar sands pipeline expansion project, and made it impossible for Minnesota’s counties, cities and towns to put reasonable fees on single use plastics. Environment Minnesota’s members reminded decision makers to make our environment a priority.

Minneapolis Ranked Among Midwest’s Solar Leaders

Minneapolis - The City of Minneapolis ranks 35th for solar energy in a new report, landing it among the nation’s/region’s leaders for installing clean energy from the sun. “Cities like Minneapolis and Eden Prairie are leading the way to a future powered by clean, renewable energy,” said Director Tim Schaefer of Environment Minnesota. “By tapping into more of our state’s vast solar energy potential, we can benefit from cleaner air and fight climate change.”

Target making inroads on solar power, but Environment Minnesota “expects more”

Minneapolis, MN   - Target has pledged to put solar panels on a quarter of its stores, but the company could cut pollution dramatically and even save its customers money by putting panels on all of its nearly 2,000 rooftops in North America, advocacy group Environment Minnesota said today.
